47 Hops Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

https://www.brewbound.com/news/2017/...-brewers-blame

Beer makers aren’t the only ones feeling the effects of a craft beer slowdown. Yakima, Washington-based hop broker 47 Hops LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the company said last week.

In a blog post published to the company’s website last week, president Douglas MacKinnon said 47 Hops — which purchases hops from growers and resells them to brewers — would continue to operate while restructuring to “become more nimble and responsive to the market.” He also assured brewery owners that the hop supply for companies contracting with 47 Hops is “secure.”’

Centrifuge for pretty low volumes

I've noticed that there are more and more centrifuges being designed for low volumes. Has anyone committed to one (or looked into) anything for volumes as low as 10-30bbl? I'm curious if the quality of some of these newer centrifuges are worth the price tag, and if anyone is able to justify the expense - are you spinning enough beer at that volume to notice the volume gains and time saved as well as stability and overall product improvement?

Head Brewer Looking for new home.

0
0
I'm a head brewer currently working on a 7 bbl system producing 1,200 bbls/yr. I'm able to maintain 14-16 taps with weekly/bi-weekly releases, with a wide variety ranging from traditional styles to style fusions. In my time as head brewer, I've implemented a sour program, a water chemistry program, yeast management, a firkin program for bi-weekly release, and developed over 45 recipes in the past year. Currently I am responsible for all production and distribution management, planning out a 2 week schedule and setting up all distribution orders. I also like to operate with the mentality of brewing locally, whether its sourcing/foraging local ingredients, collaborating with other breweries, setting up food pairings with other restaurants, or working on events for a cause with non-profits. I've implemented ATP test verified CIP processes at the last two breweries I've been employed at with great success, and am a stickler for sanitation. I've also developed data tracking and all the necessary paperwork/excel sheets for brew logs, ingredient and stock inventory, transfers, kegging runs, and sour logs. Recently I started consulting for a local brewery through their build out and set up.

My last position was as lead production brewer for Arbor Brewing Company, working on a 20 bbl system producing 6,000+ bbls/yr. There I trained several employees in the cellar and on the brewhouse, collaborated on creating a firkin program, and ran their pilot system creating several recipes released in the tap room. I gave several beer talks for brand releases as well as tours, and worked many outside events as a brand ambassador. There too, I helped develop data tracking for brand times in tank to streamline our production process and help plan the production schedule.

My start in the industry was with Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales, the premier sour brewery in Michigan. There I learned solid CIP practice and SOPs that were later adopted at subsequent employers. I was also introduced to the sour cellar and learned more traditional methods of souring, as well as top cropping methods to train and extend yeast generations.

My experience has brought me together with several intelligent and talented brewers, with whom we keep a real time message thread to discuss ingredients and process, and can have multiple answers and points of view to an issue in real time. This has been both beneficial for planning and troubleshooting, but also a continuing collective education for us all.

Outside of brewing, I have a Master's in Linguistics and have spent several years doing home renovations. I am a student of the craft and the science of brewing, and am relatively handy around the brewery. I try to do all repairs in house if possible, and will spend the time researching what I need to see if that's possible.

If you're interested, you can email me at alexanderdw84@gmail.com. Locations need to be no more than 30 miles outside of a major city. Positions must offer benefits or have compensation that would allow me to cover my own. Looking forward to talking with you!

Hello, my name is Jacob Schall and I am looking for a cellar position in your company. I currently work for Rogue Ales and Spirits as the lead tour guide at their world headquarters in Newport, Oregon. I will be moving to La Pine soon and plan to continue fostering a career in beer.

I have two and a half years experience. I have interacted with every department; marketing, distilling, brewing, restaurant, and packaging. I have gained a working knowledge of beer systems to enable me to introduce patrons to the wonder of brew through our tours.

I was a cellar person at Rogue for 4 months one summer, and have substantial experience working on the canning, bottling, and kegging lines. My goal is to begin as a cellar person in the company and work my way up to a brewer position. I have been crafting my own beers and ciders at home for the past six years. I am fluent in both English and Spanish.

For my resume email me at: Jacob.schall@yahoo.com

500ml Meheen 4 Head Bottling Machine for sale

0
0
We are selling our 4 Head Meheen Merlin bottling machine. This machine is fully functional out of the crate, but as with any older machine it will need periodic maintenance. This machine uses the 500 ml (16.9oz) BN006 bottle from United Bottles (see pic below). It is a great looking bottle and a lot more versatile than going with either the 12 or 22. You cannot use a different bottle without making changes to the machine. We decided to bottle condition our beers and are going in a different direction for filling.
This machine can do 45-60 cases of 12 an hour with three operators, depending on the beer and operators. We can provide an operation SOP as well as a list of maintenance items, but cannot provide tech support for the Meheen and it is sold AS-IS. This machine is used by numerous breweries around the country which makes troubleshooting quite a bit easier.
Price is $20,000. We can crate but you pay and arrange shipping. Email joel@stoncloudbrewing.com with any questions. Please only serious/financed inquiries. We are looking to move this asap. I do not check this thread. Sorry about the sideways pictures. Thanks!
