The Position
In short, the Shipping and Receiving Specialist is crucial to the smooth operation of the company and maintaining high customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will take ownership to ensure that shipments are pulled and packaged properly, items are received accurately, and the warehouse is maintained properly.
Responsibilities
- Picks, pulls, packages and palletizes outbound shipments for USPS, FedEx, LTL and FTL carriers.
- Meets daily carrier deadlines.
- Prepares all outgoing shipping documentation in compliance with the customer, freight carrier, and the Accounting Department for domestic and occasionally international shipments.
- Works with shipping notices, bill of ladings, invoices, orders and other various records.
- Tracks and schedules deliveries of inbound container loads and empty container pick ups
- Schedules outbound freight carriers and follows up accordingly.
- Unloads, receives, inspects and puts away incoming materials and supplies
- Records all shipping information in the computer database.
- Utilizes computer to communicate/interface with various shipping programs such as FedEx Ship Manager, Stamps.com, Endicia, PayPal Shipping, Common Carrier websites.
- Prepares outgoing goods for shipment (packing, palletizing, labeling etc.)
- Communicates with internal and external customers and team members in person and via email
- Maintains proper levels of warehouse, equipment and machine maintenance and cleanliness
- Assists with running embossing machine and/or performing some small parts assembly
- Proactively performs weekly warehouse supply inventory
- Documents warehouse processes and procedures
- Other duties as needed and/or assigned
Qualifications
At Stout Tanks and Kettles, your values, abilities, and demonstrable track record of success are more important than direct experience. That being said, the ideal candidate will have the following:
- 2+ years of shipping/receiving experience in a warehouse environment
- HS/GED ( some college or trade school preferred)
- Strong attention to detail
- Proactive problem solver
- Use of common sense to look for issues or errors
- Ability to prioritize and communicate multiple tasks.
- Computer literate w/ accurate data entry skills
- Have experience using Excel or Google Spreadsheets
- Must have at least 2 years experience operating a forklift and have a valid forklift certification
- Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs on regular basis
- Must have good written and oral communication skills
- Excellent self-organizational skills
- Ability and desire to work as a team player
- Excellent attendance record
Bonus Skills (these skills are desired, but not required)
- Ability to quote shipping using online tools and/or shipping calculators
- Experience with bills of lading and freight rate classes
- Brewing Beer (Home brewing or commercial brewing)
Our location is close to I-5 and 217 , near Bridgeport Village just south of Portland, Oregon.
