Colorado craft breweries are allowed to deliver beer direct

$

Colorado craft breweries are finally allowed to deliver beer directly to consumers during pandemic (here are the rules)
Last Friday, March 20, Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued an executive order, permitting additional Colorado liquor licensees to deliver alcohol beyond those traditionally allowed to deliver alcohol until April 18. We’ve been stacking up posts on how COVID-19 has exposed many holes in America’s state alcohol laws. In fact, before the coronavirus crisis, only 12 states were allowing for some method of delivery of all alcohol with 31 states allowing wine and beer to be purchased and shipped to consumers’ homes.

Hey all, we are about to put fill our FVs for the first time and one of those beers is going to become a nitrogenated stout.

I've scoured through google looking for a device.. be it mobile or in line that can give me a real time measurement of dissolved nitrogen.

I can't find anything... does anyone out there use such a device?

Thanks for your help

Seeking Brewer for a new brewery coming soon in Vermont

Hi,

We are in the process of opening a new brewery and are seeking an experienced brewer who enjoys creating a variety of beer styles.

Where we are at.

We own the building, the bar is built and we have indoor and outdoor furniture. We are planning on a media blitz soon so we are keeping many of the details off of this post which will allow us to have a proper roll out as planned. Happy to discuss over a call (in person seems a bit of a challenge at the moment)

We currently intend to order a 3bbl system to open but are considering increasing based on discussions with other operations to a 7 bbl system.

Our marketing plan is designed around domestic and international growth. We know we need to sell the first pint to get things going but we are looking at this with a bigger goal in mind. We love Vermont and are excited to begin here and grow outwards as demand calls for it. Without revealing too much, our artist who developed our logo and art for the tasting room was commissioned by Jimmy Buffet for his Margaritaville locations and was also commissioned by a former President for a piece that is still in the White House. This artist is also happens to be our cousin.

If being a part of something new with a vision for growth beyond our town and state borders is of interest we'd love to hear from you.

You are welcome to email or call.

Thank you,
Jonathan

Is this just a question of taxonomical semantics or are they different species under saccharomyces genus ? or are they considered distinctly different species from one another?

If they are different are they both bottom fermenting (lager) type?

3D printing (maybe we can get a place specifically for 3D printing for the brewery)

So I have a number of things I have printed for the brewery over the last couple of months but yesterday was the smallest, however, "I needed" to print it. Somehow I lost the little white plastic piece in the keg coupler that holds the ball down. So I used another donor to take measurements and I was able to spend ten minutes designing and ten minutes to print. Once the brewery gets more organized and we get the office sorted, I will move the printer to the brewery.... The yellow one is my print.

Then below are the other prints I have done thus far, flight fins and tap handles using my logos character.

UK - New national initiative launched to convert pubs to shops

$

A new UK-based scheme has launched to help thousands of currently closed pubs to reopen as click and collect hubs allowing communities to access essential groceries.

E-commerce specialist StarStock has unveiled mypubshop.com, an initiative that will allow pubs to trade as food shops during the coronavirus health crisis.

On 20 March, pubs in the UK were told to close “as soon as they reasonably can” and no reopen until government permission has been given.

However, they are allowed to operate a takeaway service, but many have opted to close for the period instead, meaning that staff have been furloughed.

StarStock’s new initiative already has the support of pub operators including Admiral Taverns, Greene King, and St Austell.

This, the company says, means that the scheme could potentially reach around 20,000 pubs.

Using StarStock’s technology, pubs will be given the ability to take and process online orders giving them both a way to ease cashflow issues as well as support their neighborhood in providing food.

The service is a partnership with Brakes, AB InBev, Coca-Cola and Use Your Local and is open to all pubs in the UK.

Admiral has advised that it will operate the technology in 1,000 of its pubs, as will Greene King. St Austell, which manages around 170 pubs mostly in the south west, is also signed up.

Brakes will also be offering the service to the 15,000 pubs it regularly supplies in the UK, providing venues with a food shop ‘starter kit’.

Sam Ulph, founder and CEO of StarStock, said: “We are all aware of what is happening around us, and in these exceptional times this is a vital way for pubs to stay connected, offer an essential service and to secure an income stream during a period when they are unable to trade in their normal way. It will also help to alleviate the pressure on other grocery shops and the supermarkets.

“This initiative is much more than an online pub service. It’s entirely focused on helping communities and we hope that it will drive positivity for pubs and champion the people that run them as the local heroes they are.”

Each transaction made on mypubshop will be subject to a 2% operational fee. However, StarStock said it is running as a non-profit campaign, and any surplus revenue will be donated to the NHS.

Once orders are placed online, pubs will act as a collection point for orders. Individual pubs can register online here.

GrowlerWerks offers donations & social media support to help those affected by crisis

COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on independent breweries, and GrowlerWerks--makers of the uKeg carbonated growler-- is in a position to help.

With so many breweries being forced to pause their on-premise offerings, the ability to offer beer to-go is more important than ever. In addition to purchasing cans or bottles, filling up a growler is a great way to support local breweries. We hope our line of uKeg growlers can help them weather this storm. To support this effort, GrowlerWerks will be using our social media channels to promote those breweries that are offering growler fills at their locations.

We also know how challenging these circumstances have been for the bartenders who work at breweries and pubs. In an effort to help support these individuals, GrowlerWerks will be donating 5% of proceeds from our website during the month of April to the Bartender Emergency Assistance Program. This program awards grants to those in the bartending industry who have been affected by the impacts of COVID-19.

A Q&A on the new US Treasury’s Paycheck Protection Program and how craft breweries can leverage those federally-guaranteed loans
The United States Treasury announced details for the Paycheck Protection Program authorized under the CARES Act signed into law on March 27, 2020. For small businesses in the United States, these provisions are the most critical components of the CARES Act because it provides $349 billion in federally-guaranteed loans under the Small Business Administration’s (“SBA”) 7a program. The loan is intended to help small businesses retain employees and pay for other allowed expenses.

Whew, what do I do now? Five stages to help successfully navigate your craft beer business during this pandemic
We have participated in several calls with business leaders and connected with breweries. We have heard two types of responses: 1) whew, we made it over that hurdle, now what do we do? or 2) I don’t even know what to do or where to begin. There are five stages your brewery will go through in our current environment. Or I should say, five stages your brewery CAN go through. Whether or not you make it to each subsequent stage depends on how well you complete the one prior.
Here are the five stages and what steps you can take in each stage to advance to the next.

Spirits360 Lifts Distillery Spirits During Pandemic
SARASOTA, Fla., April 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Recent stay-in-place orders and quarantine directives have hastened changes related to the way consumers shop for and obtain distilled spirits. But while consumers adjust to this new reality, one Sarasota-based eCommerce company is introducing a solution.
Due to landmark legislation and an innovative payment and shipping platform, Spirits360 LLC is uniquely positioned to provide high-quality bourbon to those waiting out the cornonavirus outbreak at home.
It all started last year when Account Manager Tom Langenkamp needed help shipping spirits in the wake of two key bills passed at the Kentucky statehouse. House Bill 400 allowed Kentucky distillery visitors to ship spirits home, provided home was in an allowed state. House Bill 415 eliminated the need for the visit to the distillery and instead allowed customers to place their orders online. Because of the previous measures being pursued to support Kentucky distilleries in the direct-to-consumer market, Spirits360 was uniquely poised to immediately offer assistance as more states opened direct-to-consumer channels in an effort to support distilleries and provide a safe means for consumers to obtain spirits during this crisis.
"When Tom asked me if I wanted to get involved last year, I was thrilled," said Spirtits360 CEO Mark Hume. "I was born and raised in Louisville and went to school at the University of Kentucky. I already knew quite a bit about the industry and jumped at the opportunity. Unfortunately, the coronavirus has put additional pressure on distilleries across the country as visitor traffic continues to decline. Consumers want to be able to stay at home and order online. We really wanted to find a way to help the industry by using the work we had already done to support the Kentucky legislation changes. Because we are already set up to handle the direct-to-consumer channel, Spirits360 was able to immediately offer a solution to impacted distillers. We have received multiple requests for our services as states found creative ways to address the delivery of spirits to keep business alive and to continue to collect much-needed tax revenue."
Pat Dorsey, who recently sold fintech company First Billing Services and has worked with Hume on numerous projects over the years, joined Spirts360's board at a critical time.
"I think these guys have a home run on their hands in a critical time when businesses need help," he said. "It's amazing how quickly UPS and Spirts360 have developed a platform that can ship, collect taxes for states and safely verify the age of the recipient. When you build businesses from the front line based upon a culture of great customer service with the right people, success will follow."
The Spirits360 Distillery network currently includes Kentucky, California, New York, as well as international shipping and will continue to grow as laws change.

Rolling Reboot Advice?

$

So, I hope everyone is staying healthy and safe during this pandemic. I'm lucky enough to still be working, for now. We've been able to be flexible and keep sales at an acceptable level, luckily we have very little overhead, so even at 40-50% of our normal revenue we're doing ok. As such, we are continuing to plan for the future and one thing we are going to do is a rolling reboot as soon as the taprooms can be open again.

Our place has been open 5+ years, I've been the head brewer here since last summer, and it's been middling in terms of sales. We're not totally scraping, but we're not growing. We have a very loyal base, and we used to have a lot of out of town traffic, we are close to an airport. Our biggest issues are:

1) Perception- The brewery had a lot of quality issues starting out. Infections, only plastic fermenters, no real quality controls. They lost a lot of customers who swore us off indefinitely. I've been able to secure jacketed fermenters and get us up to industry standard on QA/QC, and the beer is much better and consistent since I've been able to bring the equipment in.

2) Advertising- The owners have done most of the advertising. They have been good about posting on social media everyday, but it was a lot of old and reused images. Well intended, but not super engaging. I've started taking over some of the daily posting and taking pictures everyday, trying to get our hashtag game on point.

We have 10 taps and offer red and white wine. We just started offering customizable seltzer, which will take one tap, and I'm looking to get some perry on another tap eventually. I guess my question is what is the best way to overcome the perception issue? Address directly through a marketing campaign? Just rely on word of mouth and push harder on the marketing end to make ourselves more appealing? We don't have a kitchen, but we do have occasional pop ups, and a few places that deliver for free. Our city also just lifted an injunction against food trucks in our area, so we'll be able to have one a few times a week but not every day.

Obviously its hard to predict how things will play out, but currently we are positioned well to stay open throughout this crisis. Just wanted to pick your brains on the best way to get the word out that the beer is on point and attract more people to the tap room. I'd like to be aggressive about it rather than just hope the product will speak for itself. We're pretty small, under 300 bbls a year. Thanks for your advice in advance! Take care of yourselves.
