Sheet filter optimization

Hey all,

I have a 40x40 sheet filter press, and trying to run my IPA through it has been a nightmare.

-using HS4000 sheets (nominally rated at 5-12 micron), and using 31 sheets.
-30bbl batch size on the IPA, usually end up with 24 to 25 bbls in the Brite.
-Typically I fine on Thursday with Nalco 1072 (similar to Biofine Clear), and filter to Brite on Sunday
-I've attempted 4 runs now and it has taken 8 hours, 5 hours, 5 hours, and 3 hours (which felt pretty successful)

My question is, would it be beneficial or worthwhile to add a diversion plate on the filter and run a looser sheet (nominally rated 20 micron) and then my usual sheets? Or is the battle best fought be clarifying better in the FV prior to filtration?

top cropping: equipment options, and how to collect enough

We want to top crop, and attempted to top crop on a recent batch. We used a large stainless ladle to collect foam, put it though a large funnel into a 1/2bbl keg brink. We discovered that even after we had filled the keg with foam, we hadn't collected a full keg of yeast because the foam eventually collapsed down to 1/6th of it's former volume.

Any practical advice on how to achieve an effective top crop? is there some kind of anti-foam agent I can add to the brink, so that I can fit more foam in there? What kind of vessel do people collect foam into and how do they manage to capture enough cells? Is there equipment on the market that can facilitate top cropping?

POSITION OVERVIEW

POSITION SUMMARY

The Packaging Line Operator ensures that the quality and quantity of Harpoon products meets our highest standards. These individuals need to be technically savvy as they perform many machine adjustment and maintenance tasks in a day.


REQUIREMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

180 Once or Twice Used 1/6B Kegs

We've got up to 200 1/6bbl Stainless steel kegs we are looking to sell (original post said 180, but actually 200). North American System D Sankey.

They are all in good shape, and only once or twice used. They are embossed with Schubros Brewery on the top chime, and are keg taped, so we'll be happy to provide any proof of ownership-transfer you may need. $48 each for an order of 40 or less; $40 each for the whole lot. In between quantitities negotiable.

These are all Franke or Gophers, and we've had a great experience with the lots we have already put to use. Out of about 700 kegs we have/are actively using, only 2 have had any problem -- 2 leaky seals. Zero problems beyond that.

New Era Fine Fermentations is a new brewery in downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma opening October of 2018. We are in need of a general manager or operations manager type. This person would help us manage the brewery and make sure we are meeting the bottom line, paying the bills, and generally keeping the doors open. We are a brewery with a brewpub aspect of a small kitchen with a limited menu. We will begin the hiring process for the GM later in June 2018 with the position starting in July 2018. We are a small brewery with a 10 BBL system and an expected production of less than 3,000 BBLs per year.

2 head Wild Goose Canning Line for Sale

We're selling our WGC-100 canning line (27-31 cpm) that was bought in November 2015. Runs great and has been maintained since we've had it. Just recently we replaced the filler tubes, filler o-rings, and upgraded the puck to a stainless steel bearing. It can be switched to run 16oz cans but is currently setup for 12 oz cans and can also expand to a 4 head filler. When we purchased it we added the rinse tunnel/air nozzle and the inlet pressure/temperature monitoring multi-port manifold. It comes with the maintenance manual, operations manual, tool kit, and flow meters.

Purchased in November 2015 for $75,000. Selling for $65,000 with $5,000 down. Down payment is non-refundable and holds the unit until our new canner arrives which is 8 weeks-ish. This unit is sold as is.
